Ferret Vaccination Schedule

Kits
CDV (Canine Distemper Virus) -- 6 to 14 weeks of age. A series of 3 vaccinations given at 3-week intervals (8, 11, and 14 weeks). The last one given at 14 weeks or just after, then yearly booster.
Rabies -- Vaccinate at 3 months (12 weeks) and booster annually.

Adults/Kits
CDV -- Over 14 weeks of age and/or vaccination history unknown. A series of 2 vaccinations given at a 3-week interval, booster yearly.
Rabies -- Vaccinate at 3 months (12 weeks) and booster annually.

Adults/Kits -- Current on vaccinations.
CDV -- Booster annually after kit series is given.
Rabies -- Vaccinate at 3 months (12 weeks) and booster annually.

Approved Vaccines

Canine Distemper Virus (CDV):
USDA Licensed Vaccine:
        PureVax Ferret (US License No. 298)
Recombinant canarypox vector; 1 mL subcutaneously into healthy ferrets 8 weeks of age and older. Primary vaccination requires two additional 1 mL doses at 3 week intervals. Revaccinate annually. Manufactured by Merial, Duluth, GA, 1-888-MERIAL-1.

IMRAB-3 (US License No. 298)
TYPE:
Killed Virus; 1 ml SQ in healthy ferrets at 3 months, then annually. Manufactured by Merial, Duluth, GA For more information call 1-888-MERIAL-1.

NOTE:  The above listed brands of vaccine are the only ones with USDA approval for the domestic companion ferret. Combination vaccine, other brands of vaccine should not be given since their efficacy has not been proven in our domestic companion ferret.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT WISCONSIN NO LONGER HAS A KILL AND TEST POLICY IN FERRET BITE CASES! Most communities will follow the 2006 Rabies Compendium, please check with your local Animal Control Authority. If you need assistance in a bite situation, please call the Ferret Nook as soon as possible.
